Since 2016 Senzacornice has been collaborating on the project for the census of the contemporary art archives in Tuscany,in the framework of the agreement for the enhancement of the archive heritage, coordination of operations and protection for archives and libraries. This agreement wasdrawn up by the Tuscan Soprintendenza Archivistica e Bibliograficaand by the Tuscan Regional Authority in partnership with the Centro per l’arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci.
Within the framework of the census of the contemporary art archives in Tuscany, Alessandra Acocella and Caterina Toschi have curated a project, produced by Senzacornice and sponsored by the Tuscan Regional Authority with the support of the Fondazione CR Firenze. This project is aimed at the enhancement of one of the most important book and archive fonds conserving memory of the recent Tuscan artistic scene: the archive of Base/Progetti per l’arte. This artists collective was founded in 1998 by Mario Airò, Marco Bagnoli, Massimo Bartolini, Vittorio Cavallini, Yuki Ichihashi, Paolo Masi, Massimo Nannucci, Maurizio Nannucci, Paolo Parisi, Remo Salvadori and Enrico Vezzi, with the coordination of Lorenzo Bruni, along with the namesake artist-run space in Via San Niccolò 18r in Florence (www.baseitaly.org). To mark the twentieth anniversary of this initiative, Senzacornice has brought together a selection of archive materials on the memory of these last twenty years of projects “by artists for artists” at Base. On this occasion, the documentary and photographic materials from the Base/Progetti per l’arte archive were digitised so as to create an initial digital archive on the history of the collective also accessible online.
